Comparison with cell phone companies... which one is pure quality, service plus price?
Q. Of all the phone companies there are for Cell Phones, which one is the best? My personal opinion is T-mobile (www.t-mobile.com) Prepaid to go! and their sidekick LX kicks butt for only $1.00 a day... unlimited!

A. T-Mobile is not the best overall. Their is not one cell phone company perfect in everything, like price, or service, or call quality. GSM Carriers (like T-Mobile and Cingular) have issues with good call quality. They will have very scratchy calls and some other issues. Overall, they aren't the best. CDMA carriers like Verizon or Sprint offer more coverage and better call quality, but their price plans seem to come at us a little harder. You will pay more with Cingular or Verizon...but you will have slightly better coverage...and a lot better coverage with Verizon Wireless because they are constantly building.

Why can't one specify what one wants to buy on e-bay and then sellers bid to provide the same? Defies econmcs?
Q. What could be the reason that a user cannot specify what he wants to buy (the exact product) and then sellers bid to provide the same on online websites like e-bay? Technologically, this is hardly any problem to implement; my question though is not about the technology limitations/complexities. Basically, why is online shopping a seller driven market i.e. a seller says he has something to sell and then users bid for it? Are there any evident issues with it being a buyer's market i.e. a user specifying that he wants to buy a product and then sellers bid to provide that product at the least possible price? Does a buyer's market defy some basic economic principles? In what kind of environment can a buyer's market exist? FYI: In countries… [cont.]

A. Unfortunately I see very little good customer service these days. Perhaps we'll see more of it with the recession now and people needing their jobs. I believe that cashiers and salespeople should be polite, helpful and keep in mind that customers pay their salaries. A smile is always nice! I've had unbelievable rudeness from cashiers. Many don't like large orders going through the line and if you have coupons they sigh or roll their eyes. I think they should be fired for this kind of behavior. I would pay more to go to a store with good customer service. I avoid some stores because of the rudeness of the cashiers.

Is there a high speed internet service provider comparison site...?
Q. where you can actually compare the real prices of ISPs, and not their promotional offers, so you can find out what the actuall prices are going to be. I am tired of searching and searching the net only to come across all the affiliate " ISP comparison sites", that are just loaded with a bunch of banners, that describe the ISPs promotional offers. It is really annoying, there are too many affiliates that are out to make money and want you to click on there banners and sign up so they make money, but there is no real informative sites that will actually give you the facts in a comparison chart of their internet speeds, and real prices.

How much do data and voice cell phone plans cost in Japan, where cellular service is ubiquitous?
Q. So I hear that just about everybody in Japan has a kick-ass cell phone with awesome data service. Since I can't read Japanese, I was just wondering what a standard cell phone plan with unlimited data and a reasonable of amount minutes costs over there? Mostly I am asking because I want to see if us USA consumers are being hoodwinked by the telecom companies, or if they charge a reasonable fee. Since they are obviously a cartel (how about them all raising SMS fees in unison) the only real price comparison can be done by looking at foreign companies.
Asked by EP - Sun Aug 31 00:52:09 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Depends on how much talk time you want. I had a plan with KDDI that allowed me a sliding fee plan for data. I think that it capped out at $40 though. As for voice, it cost me like 30-40$ a month. I think that most of the time I used email instead of talking to people though. All in all it cost me about 40-50$ a month but the most it cost me was about 80 when went data crazy. You can always get a smaller voice plan. I think that cell phones in japan are a million times better than those in the west... The phones certainly are!

Help! What is a "price index"?
Q. I think the answer is D, but I really don't feel confident with that. A price index is: a) a comparison of the price of a market basket from a fixed point of reference. b) a comparison of real GDP in one period relative to another. c) the cost of a market basket of goods and services in a base period divided by the cost of the same market basket in another period. d) a ratio of real GDP to nominal GDP.

Cheaper options for getting around SE England by rail?
Q. My husband and I are planning a trip to England this summer and we are looking into taking some excursion trips from London to Stratford Upon Avon and Bath. I've been pricing the rail trips for this on National Rail and in comparison to what we pay for train service in the Netherlands the prices are insane. Is there a discount card or four day pass or some other value option that insiders know about that could save us travel costs on our trip?
Asked by Elizabeth N - Mon May 12 04:59:08 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. check out the railcard website - there is a south east network card that you can buy for UK20 which gives you 1/3 off your fares. I usually buy the family railcard when I'm home in the UK for a holiday and even though I only use it for a few weeks, it is worth buying rather than paying the full fare.

Troubleshooting Comast: What exactly are they telling me?
Q. I'm a complete novice with computer and internet jargon. This is an excerpt from Comcast's terms and conditions. What exactly does this mean? Comcast speed tiers range from 4.0Mbps to 8.0Mbps download speed (maximum upload speed from 384Kbps to 768Kbps respectively). The speed tier received and pricing will vary depending upon the level of Comcast video service (if any) received. Speed comparisons are for downloads only and are compared to 1.5Mbps DSL and 56K dial-up. Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. Sorry for typos I'm guessing I need these specs. in writing from them? Why would I not want cable/Comcast if I did not plan on gaming or downloading mass content. What is the difference? I cannot use AT&T as they committed… [cont.]
Asked by Yahoo Sucks - Mon Aug 27 13:00:36 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They're saying that the more speed you want, the higher the price will be. DSL service often does the same thing. So, for 4.0Mbps speed, you'll pay once price. For 5.0Mbps, you'll pay a little more and so on. Then, they're saying that when they show you how much faster their speeds are, they're comparing them to 1.5Mbps DSL. Not a fair comparison if you ask me. That's like saying my Ford Winstar drives faster (on the freeway) than your corvet does (in the parking lot.) The last line however says that while you are paying for one speed, you may not actually reach that speed. Again, DSL does the same thing.
