Why can't one specify what one wants to buy on e-bay and then sellers bid to provide the same? Defies econmcs?
Q. What could be the reason that a user cannot specify what he wants to buy (the exact product) and then sellers bid to provide the same on online websites like e-bay? Technologically, this is hardly any problem to implement; my question though is not about the technology limitations/complexities. Basically, why is online shopping a seller driven market i.e. a seller says he has something to sell and then users bid for it? Are there any evident issues with it being a buyer's market i.e. a user specifying that he wants to buy a product and then sellers bid to provide that product at the least possible price? Does a buyer's market defy some basic economic principles? In what kind of environment can a buyer's market exist? FYI: In countries… [cont.]

A. I believe that it depends on differences in the way both display the items, issues of trust and fear of manipulation.

Is there an effective way to easily compare printing services in terms of cost and quality?
Q. There are seemingly thousands of different printing services out there, but it seems very difficult to compare among them. I find myself visiting many different companies and spending a great deal of time trying to compare them. There are price comparison search engines for products, but I don't know of any for printing services. Do they exist? Even just a general printing service price tracker? There is also the question of quality - do any sites review and compare the quality of services? Even if there are no quality review sites, simply a good price comparison tool would be helpful. Most printers can make arrangements to provide samples, allowing the quality question to be answered.

A. just focus on the 3: grade of paper, resolution(dpi's), cost/M then delivery... (how fast they can comply) but you can try asking for quotes...samples will help with a proper quote from how exactly you want the outcome to be... from there you can compare... just narrow down to at least 2 companies... or you can try this...

How much does good customer service influence your decision to return to a store? How important is it in comparison with prices? Would you actually be willing to pay a more if it meant you were getting better customer service? Give some examples of standard customer service behaviors that you would like to see changed. A. Unfortunately I see very little good customer service these days. Perhaps we'll see more of it with the recession now and people needing their jobs. I believe that cashiers and salespeople should be polite, helpful and keep in mind that customers pay their salaries. A smile is always nice! I've had unbelievable rudeness from cashiers. Many don't like large orders going through the line and if you have coupons they sigh or roll their eyes. I think they should be fired for this kind of behavior. I would pay more to go to a store with good customer service. I avoid some stores because of the rudeness of the cashiers.

Is there a high speed internet service provider comparison site...?
Q. where you can actually compare the real prices of ISPs, and not their promotional offers, so you can find out what the actuall prices are going to be. I am tired of searching and searching the net only to come across all the affiliate " ISP comparison sites", that are just loaded with a bunch of banners, that describe the ISPs promotional offers. It is really annoying, there are too many affiliates that are out to make money and want you to click on there banners and sign up so they make money, but there is no real informative sites that will actually give you the facts in a comparison chart of their internet speeds, and real prices.

Has anyone used an "upfront mortgage broker" to secure a home mortgage?
Q. I was wondering if anyone has used these UMB's and if they have could you provide some feedback in terms of comparisons to a regular or retail broker? Can you negotiate price, how much did it cost in comparison, customer service???

A. I'm not sure what you mean by that term. I work for a mortgage broker - there are no "up front" fees if that's what you mean. All of them will be required to give you a Good Faith Estimate "up front" too. Hope that helps, email me with questions at robert495713@yahoo.com.

Cheaper options for getting around SE England by rail?
Q. My husband and I are planning a trip to England this summer and we are looking into taking some excursion trips from London to Stratford Upon Avon and Bath. I've been pricing the rail trips for this on National Rail and in comparison to what we pay for train service in the Netherlands the prices are insane. Is there a discount card or four day pass or some other value option that insiders know about that could save us travel costs on our trip?

A. check out the railcard website - there is a south east network card that you can buy for UK20 which gives you 1/3 off your fares. I usually buy the family railcard when I'm home in the UK for a holiday and even though I only use it for a few weeks, it is worth buying rather than paying the full fare.

A. Phil, One thing I learned is that it's more important to focus on the quality of your followers over the quantity. You can easily get a bunch of followers by following people at random, but if none of them visit your site it really won't mean much. A couple of things you should do, is look for Twitter accounts that discuss mobile phones, find their followers, and start following them. If somebody is following a Twitter account that discusses mobile phones, chances are that they will have an interest in your account. Additionally, Tweet OFTEN. The more you Tweet, the more exposure your account will get. Check out search.twitter.com. Every time you post a tweet, it will show up hear if somebody searches for a phrase that was within… [cont.]

A. Neither. You can more bang for your hard earned $$$ elsewhere. I got my wife's ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida: Or you could check out these other online sources: www.WhiteFlash.com www.GoodOldGold.com www.ExcelDiamonds.com www.BlueNile.com Blue Nile's database is good, but they don't provide you with photos or analysis reports of the diamond. I wouldn't go with them for that reason. Happy hunting. * * *

Should I switch from Cablevision to Verizon Fios? I already have Verizon for the phone.?
Q. I have one HDtV and will add another within the next year. I would take the current offer which will cost about 100 per month for 2 years.I'm now paying 135 for tv and computer ( cablevision) and another 65 for phone with verizon. Dealership told woman whose car was in service-if she didn't buy truck to take her baby & walk home-32 degrees?

A. I would have done the same thing. If the dealership and shop were closed it does sound reasonable, they don't have to open when closed. If they were open and refused to give you your car, then you have a legal option- I would call police and tell them they are refusing to return your property and the vehicle is stolen.

How to make fax machine work after switched from hardline phone to a VOIP phone service?
Q. After I switched from AT&T hardline phone (PSTN) to iTalkBB Internet phone (VOIP) service, my same voice phone works just fine while my same fax machine does not. A. Actually, you don't need a cable modem with more than 1 port to split your network up. I use a Linksys "5-Port Switch" ($40) connected to the output of my Cable Modem. All you need is an allocation of two IP addresses from Time Warner. Most ISP's that provide HighSpeed Internet also allow you two Dynamic IP Addresses. (You are using Dynamic IP assignment from ISP rather than Fixed IP?) In my case, I had to contact customer support and ask them to "activate" the 2nd dynamic IP (even though they say it is free, I still had to request it to be activated because most people don't know how to use two IP's). Modem connects to Port 4 or 5 (Uplink port) of the Linksys Switch. From the Linksys Switch: - I have a Linksys WRT-54G NAT-Router… [cont.]

A. As you can see from the answers above, and from any online research you are about to do, you have asked a very good question, to which there are many different answers! That's because the answer to your question, cable versus DSL, is "it depends". Some people have a better experience with DSL. Most people have a better experience with cable. And still other groups of people couldn't care less, because either cable or DSL will be many times faster than their old dialup. In my own case, I tried DSL and it was lousy because my neighborhood was too far from the nearest telco central office, and this makes a difference as the bandwidth you get depends on how many thousands of feet of telephone wiring there is in your local loop. Q. It seems that when cable companies quote prices there are things they aren't telling you. I want to know what do I need to be aware of. Also where do I go for company comparisons? where is the best place to shop around? I live in the Brooklyn, NY area.

So not… [cont.]

Is it worth paying extra ?
Q. Hunting around for car insurance, and could just go with the cheapest on a money comparison list - but is that the best option ? For a bit (to a lot!) more some insurers include benefits such as courtesy car & free legal service etc. But is it worth paying the extra for something I might not use ? I notice Direct Line are refusing to be part of these lists because they say they are not accurate comparisons as cheapest price is not necessarily the best deal. Now I know why it's called confused.com! Can anyone help me ?

A. I wouldn't pay for the legal service, it's highly unlikely that you would ever need it and if you did all you need to to is visit your local CAB for advice. I think the courtesy car is a good idea, I have this on my direct line policy as I would be lost without a car - I live in a village with no bus service - so I think the extra I pay is worth it and it's not much anyway, about 20 a year from what I remember

I want "cable" TV, but Mediacom is EXPENSIVE. What can you tell me about Direct TV & Dish Network?
Q. I don't know much about either Direct TV or Dish Network, but their prices and channel selection look amazing in comparison to Mediacom and I'm wondering if people who have Direct TV or Dish Network are satisfied with their service. I also need to know if you have to have an active land phone line for either to work, because I just use a cell phone. Also, if you don't get the DVR devices to pause/rewind live TV, can you still connect a regular VCR to your TV and record programs? Any other general information you can give me about other cable options would also be much appreciated. Thank you!

A. I have had Dish for about 5 years now. I'm happy with it. Yes, you can record programs with your vcr. You also get an all-in-one remote that controls everything except a DVD player. You do not have to have a land line phone. If you want to order a PPV movie or event, you can call it in, or order on their website. We order a PPV movie about once a week (we ordered two today, Failure to Launch and Jarhead) via the internet, and it's always on within a couple minutes. It's an all day ticket too, so you can watch the movie over and over. We had some problems recently with the dish not receiving signal. We called them, and they were going to send out a repai guy. It would cost $90 up front, but they said we could get a repair service plan for $3 [cont.]

A. Clintons biggest failure was refusing to take out osama bin laden on several occassions he had, even while the fbi implored him and he ignored their requests. This failue in judgement cost our country 3,000 lives and many more from iraq that could have been avoided.
